 Roosevelt PTO - CLASS PARENT ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES 2026-2027

NEW THIS YEAR!

• All grades and classes will hold class parties on the same designated days 
• Parties will follow a consistent format across each grade level (same activities, snacks, and schedule).
• We ask that one class parent per grade attend the PTO meeting each month. The goal is to improve communication and generate feedback & new ideas!
• Each class will have 3 Class Parents total. One of these 3 parents may also serve as the Grade Liaison and/or Contact Parent for the class. These roles can overlap, but there will never be more than 3 Class Parents per class.
• Class Parent selections will be based on PTO service hours completed during the previous school year.

CLASS PARENT ROLES & DESCRIPTIONS!

Grade Liaison

• One Grade Liaison is assigned per grade level
• Serves as the main communication link between the Lead Teacher and the grade’s Contact Parents
• Confirms dates, times, and number of Class Parents needed for grade-level activities such as class parties, field day, class picnics, class trips, etc.
• Maintains regular communication with Contact Parents to share updates and ensure smooth coordination of activities
• Collaborates with Contact Parents to plan class party activities, snacks, and schedules, and to assign responsibility for purchasing required materials
• Works with Contact Parents to decide if class dues should be used for any additional events or activities in addition to class parties (for example, in the past some classes have purchased Field Day t-shirts for each student).
• If funds remain at the end of the school year, may work with Contact Parents to select and coordinate a small gift for each child across the grade
• Coordinates with Contact Parents to determine which parent will attend the monthly PTO meeting

Contact Parent

• Each class will have one Contact Parent 
• Shares all information from the Grade Liaison with the class parents
• Collects class dues of $25 per child 
• Takes the lead on coordinating which class parents will attend class parties, etc., following guidelines set by the Grade Liaison
• Budgets class funds appropriately for all planned parties and activities
• Collects receipts (or photos of receipts) from class parents and manages reimbursements as needed
• Responsible for sharing the monthly PTO Agenda with all families in your class via the contact list you have collected

 Class Parents 

• Assists with all class parties, field day, picnics, field trips, etc. as determined with contact parent

HELPFUL TIPS!

• Grade Liaisons should connect with your grade level teacher leads as soon as possible to determine if they have any special requests when it comes to activities, food allergies etc. and to request that they provide you with details on class trips, picnics, etc. as they become available 
• Start a text chain with all Contact Parents/Class Parents so that you can easily and quickly disseminate information
• Something you may want to consider is if you’d like to coordinate a class gift for your teacher for teacher appreciation and / or end of year, etc. (outside of class dues)
• Let us know if you’d like contact information for any of the Contact Parents from your child’s grade from last year! They likely have helpful hints and maybe even templates that you can use for planning & budgeting.
